Obesity doesn’t distinguish between the age and gender of a person. Anyone at any point in their life is prone to become obese, the best is to reverse obesity starting now. Though being a common occurrence everyone isn’t aware of its causes, consequences, and treatments. This article covers important aspects of Obesity.

What is Obesity?

Obesity is a severe and chronic health condition where the weight of a person exceeds their normal or healthy weight limit. It negatively affects the different systems of our body. The obese or overweight population is mostly at the risk of developing many health problems. For example:

  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Heart disease
  • Joint problems
  • Bone diseases

What Causes Obesity?

Factors like lifestyle, genetics, eating habits, and the way our body handles energy are mainly responsible for obesity. The most common causes of obesity are our lifestyle and eating habits. People rarely balance their work life and their everyday life. Moreover, we’re increasing our consumption of junk food.

Sometimes illnesses like polycystic ovary syndrome and Cushing’s disease also lead to weight gain or obesity. In some cases, certain steroids and drugs to alleviate depression increase weight. However, the good thing is that obesity is not permanent. Losing weight and reverse obesity depends on our dedication and intention.

Addressing and reverse obesity as an epidemic by first figuring out its cause is the place to start.

Consequences of Obesity

There are two major consequences of obesity; Health consequences and Economic consequences.

1. Health Consequences

Obesity or weight gain is certainly not good for our health. It brings many direct or indirect risks like severe diseases or health conditions. Some of them are:

  • High blood pressure (Hypertension)
  • High triglycerides levels
  • High LDL cholesterol or low HDL cholesterol
  • Difficulty in doing physical activities
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Stroke
  • Pain in our body
  • Coronary heart disease
  • Diseases related to bone and joints
  • Gallbladder disease
  • Breathing problems
  • Sleep apnea
  • Mental difficulties like anxiety, clinical depression, and others
  • Cancers of breast, colon, gallbladder, kidney, liver, and others

Each obese person does not necessarily suffer from such health conditions or diseases. However, it does not mean we are free from the risks of obesity, and best to reverse obesity.

2. Economic Consequences

Obesity and the health problems related to it have significant economic consequences as well. Medical costs related to the effects of obesity are both direct and indirect. The direct ones involve the cost incurred in preventing, diagnosing, and treating health problems related to weight gain. The indirect ones are costs incurred because of illnesses and deaths caused by obesity.

And, in the work environment, suppose an employee does not come to the office because of an illness caused by obesity. Or, in the worst case, that an employee dies of obesity. In both cases, the employee does not attend the office which affects their employers. This further impacts the economic condition of a nation.

Our generation prefers eating fast food over nutritional diets. Fast foods are high in calories with low nutritional value. They contain large amounts of fat and sugar and lack sufficient amounts of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients necessary for good health.

Even the World Health Organization (WHO) is concerned about Obesity causing several health risks. Earlier years obesity was a big problem mainly in nations with higher income. Today, it is also a major problem in low as well as middle income nations.

There are many factors responsible for weight gain, though the biggest impact on obesity is from fast and junk food. At first, believing this as a main cause is difficult for most of us. We would soon enough find it to be the case after searching these terms on the internet:

  • Fast food obesity facts

The Simple Solutions to Reduce and Reverse Obesity and its Consequences

Every problem has a solution, and obesity, being a global concern, has many. Now is the time to address and reverse obesity, the epidemic, start with figuring out its cause.

Another way to reduce weight gain and related health problems is Fasting. Fasting refers to skipping meals, and not nibbling between meals to give our body a break from the normal routine. This prevents the risk of several health conditions including obesity.

We have practiced fasting for many centuries. Fasting days and its forms have changed over time and today, the following three types of fasting are most common:

1. Intermittent fasting:

In this type of fasting we knowingly avoid eating food for the major part of a day. Sometimes intermittent fasting means skipping breakfast and sometimes it is a fast for 16 hours. The benefits of intermittent fasting are also obtained through alternate day fasting.

2. Water Fasting:

This kind of fasting means not consuming anything except water for a predefined period. The prime objective of water fasting is stimulating the body to heal itself. Another objective is calorie restriction.

This is achieved by not eating food during water fasting. As a result, our body heals itself, and no calorie consumption leads to weight loss.

3. Autophagy Fasting:

Autophagy is a natural process where old parts of the cells of our body are replaced with new ones. Fasting is the best way to activate the autophagy process in our body. Instead of medicines or therapies to lose weight, we induce autophagy.
